Mass replacement of sandboxes[edit]

Hi Spcresswell, please wait.

  • The pages are currently under discussion at the bottom of WP:AN; would you mind joining the discussion before erasing traces?
  • If you would like all of these pages to be deleted per WP:U1, please just say so in the discussion.
  • You are not using the correct template to nominate the pages for deletion anyway.

Best regards,
~ ToBeFree (talk) 23:52, 20 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page stalker) To add to what ToBeFree said, you need to add {{db-u1}} (with the curly braces); otherwise it will not register as a template. RandomCanadian (talk / contribs) 23:58, 20 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
(I did intentionally not provide instructions yet, as any administrator can just mass-delete all of them on your request at WP:AN, and I didn't do so yet because the pages are under community discussion) ~ ToBeFree (talk) 00:03, 21 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

A belated welcome![edit]

The welcome may be belated, but the cookies are still warm!

Here's wishing you a belated welcome to Wikipedia, Spcresswell! I see that you've already been around a while and wanted to thank you for your contributions. Though you seem to have been successful in finding your way around, you may still benefit from following some of the links below, which help editors get the most out of Wikipedia:

Need some ideas of what kind of things need doing? Try the Task Center.

If you don't already know, you should sign your posts on talk pages by using four tildes (~~~~) to insert your username and the date.

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Again, welcome! ~ ToBeFree (talk) 00:25, 21 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Spcresswell, you meant well and reacted kindly to the community concerns about the sandbox edits, so there are absolutely no worries from my side, and there will likely no action against your account. However, this leaves you in a potentially dangerous position:

Your account is currently extended confirmed due to the amount of contributions you have made. This means that you are technically able to edit almost every page on Wikipedia, including the most contentious ones, about issues such as the Arab-Israeli conflict and COVID-19.

There are two possible approaches to this (relatively excessive) level of trust, and I'd like to offer you a choice between these:

  • Exercising extreme caution when editing about such topics; a list can be found at Wikipedia:General_sanctions#Active_sanctions.
  • Temporarily returning your extended confirmation until you feel experienced enough to edit extended-confirmed pages.

If you are interested in the second option, please let me know. I'll then remove the "extended confirmed" group from your account, with a note in the log that "the user has voluntarily given back this permission for now, and may re-request it at any time at WP:PERM/EC or User talk:ToBeFree, without any requirements."

Best regards,
~ ToBeFree (talk) 00:38, 21 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I prefer the second option of the two. Although I would not edit events and issues such as these (primarily due to lack of extensive knowledge about them), I would feel safer to return my extended confirmation. Thanks. ~ Spcresswell (talk)
Thank you very much 🙂 Please let me know as soon as you'd like to receive the permission again; there is no time limit and no requirement for doing so. My personal recommendation would be about 300-500 edits in Wikipedia's main article space. This can take years of occasional editing, and taking this time to gain experience is perfectly fine. Wikipedia is a volunteer project and you are welcome to invest just as much time as you like. Best regards, ~ ToBeFree (talk) 01:25, 21 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Sandboxes[edit]

Hi Spcresswell, I've deleted the 302 sandboxes you tagged with db-u1. There are still 26 more that were not tagged; let me (or another admin) know if you want them deleted as well. — The Earwig ⟨talk⟩ 05:24, 21 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi The Earwig. Yes, it would be ideal if they were deleted too. Thanks ~ Spcresswell (talk)
All done. — The Earwig ⟨talk⟩ 20:23, 21 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. ~ Spcresswell (talk)

Talk page communication[edit]

Hi Spcresswell,

Just a couple quick pointers on talk page conventions (article talk pages, user talk pages, noticeboards, etc.). They're a little less intuitive than articles/sandboxes because the Visual Editor doesn't work, so we have some conventions to aid communication.

When you reply to someone, it's usually a good idea to indent once more than the line above you.

So if I'm writing with this kind of indent, created by two colons, you would respond...
Like this, beginning with three colons.

To create a notification, like the kind that my noticeboard "ping" of you should've done, you'll want to link to someone's name (like you did with my username) and in the same edit sign your post using four tildes. It looks like you either typed your username or signed with three tildes. Four tildes (~~~~) automatically adds your linked name and timestamp.

Of course, this is all with the hope that you stick around and edit some articles (and talk pages). :) — Rhododendrites talk \\ 21:09, 21 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
